IDS is a non-profit design and innovation hub that uses design to inspire, challenge, and transform individuals and organizations to lead creatively to improve lives.

The United Nations estimates Africa’s population to be 2.4 billion by 2050, with 50% of the population under the age of 25 (the youth). In addition to this demographic challenge and opportunity, the continent faces youth unemployment, with the youth accounting for approximately 60% of African unemployment. We need tools to mitigate this challenge by raising grateful, responsible, and socially aware young people who, through creative confidence, serve as the leading catalyst in preparing their communities for future socioeconomic advancement.

Design drives innovation, fosters development, promotes sustainability, and creates value. It encourages healthy competition, enhances tools for efficient productivity, and leads to growth.

The hub aims to teach, train, and nurture young people in design methodologies and skills, which contribute to the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is to help develop their creative intelligence and potential while also raising them to be responsible and active citizens.
